A few days ago, some areas in Penang were hit by flash floods, many among them villages in Tanjung Tokong, Tanjung Bungah and Batu Ferringhi. One of the worst hit places was Kampung Mutiara (Kubur) in Batu Ferringhi, Penang.
Mr Moorthy from Micron got in touch with us on Wednesday night and asked if we could coordinate a project there to provide immediate aid from Micron Malaysia. The budget was RM10,000.
After consulting the Tok Imam who is the local leader there, there was a pressing need for foodstuff and mattresses and the 34 families there lost almost everything they had.
Thus, since last night, President Gopal, Service Projects Chair Koek and President-Elect Thiaggu have mobilised to arrange for mattresses, pillows and groceries for the 34 affected families. Today, we loaded all the mattresses on to Thiaggu's lorry and groceries on to Thiaggu's Ford Ranger, and Gopal, Thiaggu and Koek will be delivering the items to the affected village tomorrow.
