Background to the project: In 2018, Jane Ollier, had just cycled out of Penang and were travelling on the mainland when Jane was hit by a car and was treated in the orthopaedics and occupational therapy department in Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim. Jane's wounds have now fully healed and, despite being left with scarring, she is fit enough to take part in sport. She has even returned to cycling! Her experience in hospital, both in Malaysia and England, have influenced her to change career from Designer to Physiotherapist. She is now working and studying in a hospital in Sussex and finds it very rewarding. She thanks the doctors and staff for their fabulous professional and dedicated care for her recovery.

A message from Jane: "A big thank-you to all the wonderful staff at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital. I am lucky to have received such good treatment from everyone on the Orthopaedic team. You are very skilled and caring people and I am grateful for everything you did for me. You helped me feel comfortable and positive and I miss you all."

This project was initiated by Michael Robinson, International Project Manager of  Rotary Club of Lindum Lincoln in District 1070, UK. He contacted Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani via our website in May 2019 on behalf of his club and their daughter club, Rotary Club of Lincoln Colonia. The two clubs used their District Grant from The Rotary Foundation for this project. The total from the grant is GBP 4500, or about RM 23,000. The rest of the funds came from Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani's project fund.

The items bought are:
1. Motorized dressing couch for the Ortho outpatient clinic
2. Occupational therapy equipment  for Occupational Therapy Department - for upper limb occupational therapy, shoulder, forearm, wrist and hand rehabilitation

All the items are worth about RM27,000.

Hospital Deputy Director Dr Azurin, Head of Orthopaedics Department Dr Vijay, Head of Occupational Therapy Unit Puan Noor Emellia Jamaludin were among those present to receive the handover. Jane Ollier and Rotarians from Rotary Club of Lindum Lincoln and Lincoln Colonia Zoomed in for the event. Rotarians Dato' Dr Subramaniam, Moorthy, Arvind, Koek Yee Jeen, Choo Kai Hong, Cheng Yi Xin and Dr Bernard Chan of Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani were present in person.

Jane Ollier was admitted to Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim in July 2018 after a very serious accident, when she was knocked off her bike. She was in the Orthopaedic Ward from 4th to to 15th July. Both her and her family will never forget the wonderful treatment and care that was given. Her mother, Sue, is a member of Rotary Club of Lincoln Colonia. Her long term partner, Rob Wilkinson, is a Past President of Rotary Club of Lindum Lincoln. Both are Rotary Clubs in Lincoln, in the U.K.  Hence the reason behind both clubs contributing to the project.

Total cost of the equipment comes to RM 27,167. This project is funded mostly by District Grants from The Rotary Foundation via District 1070 of GBP 4,5000. The rest is from Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani.
