RCBSP organised Deepavali shopping at Navin Emporium, Jalan Sekerat for children from Gurunathar Ashram on 14th October as part of their annual activities. More than 55 children were taken to experience shopping on their own. This event really brought so much of joy to the children, which is generally not their privilege. The children had the opportunity to pick their own clothes of their choice.
The members of the Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani were present to assist the children make the choice. A tailor was in attendance to modify the dresses if necessary. This shopping is very meaningful as it helps the recipients celebrate Deepavali. Towards the end of the shopping event the children gathered around the members to say a thank you prayers. This is the 5th consecutive year this shopping is carried out and RCBSP hope to continue this event every year. AG Rajj Melambaram gave a most spirited talk on Membership Development in clubs. He evoked the image of Po, the Dragon Warrior, to enlighten us about our role in developing the club. Rotarians visited from RC Subang, RC Perlis, RC Alor Star, RC Kulim and RC Penang.
The Rotaract Club of AIMST University was chartered on 15th May 2017. However, most of the students were on holiday, hence the club recently celebrated the Charter on 7th October. The Charter Certificate was presented and the Charter President Givianaa was installed by Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani President Sunil Shetty at a simple yet meaningful ceremony. Members of the Board of Directors and charter members also received their pins. Rotaract Advisors are Ms Remya and Dr Parthiban. President Sunil urged Rotaractors to serve their community and at the same time develop themselves for professonal improvement. In attendance were PDG Dr Rajinder Singh and Ann, PAG Surendra Kaur of RC Teluk Intan, PE Clement of RC Kajang, Rotarian Sanjeev of RC Kampung Baru City Centre, PAG Sarkuru, PAG Arvind, AG Bernard of RC Bandar Sungai Petani. Rotaract clubs bring together people ages 18-30 to exchange ideas with leaders in the community, develop leadership and professional skills, and have fun through service.
