World's Greatest Meal to End Polio raises more than USD10,000

In conjunction with World Polio Day and Deepavali on 24 October, Rotary International District 3300 shared a Deepavali fellowship meal on 2 November 2022. This was hosted by Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani at President Thiaggu Letchumanan's home. District Governor Dr Krishna Kumar and District First Lady PAG Pushpa attended in person after his official visit to the club.

A total of 80 Rotarians attended in person and on hybrid zoom.

CHARITY VIRTUAL RUN 2021 - SPONSORSHIP APPEAL

Dear Sirs,

The Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani is the local chapter of Rotary, a global network of 1.2 million neighbours, friends, leaders, and problem solvers who come together to make positive, lasting change in communities at home and abroad.

Since our Charter in 2010, the members of the Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani have carried out numerous projects to help the needy and underprivileged both locally and internationally.

The Covid-19 pandemic which changed the world as we know it in 2020, saw our members step up to the challenge of answering the call for aid for the many segments of society that have been badly hit by the effects of the pandemic. Over the last one and a half years, we have carried out the following service projects worth over RM 1,000,000.00 :-

a) provided medical equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) for front liners at Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim Sungai Petani, surrounding medical facilities and for the Corrections Department in Kedah and Pulau Pinang;
b) provided groceries and daily essentials for over one thousand and five hundred (1,500) underprivileged families;
c) covered the operating expenses and provided groceries, toiletries and other daily essentials for thirteen (13) charity care homes for the handicapped, aged and infirm which altogether have around three (300) residents for a period of eight (8) months since the Movement Control Order (MCO) was imposed
d) provided face masks, hand sanitisers and thermo-scanners for thirty five (35) schools and over 2,500 students;
e) provided over two hundred (200) laptops for needy students; and
f) many other humanitarian projects that have been urgently needed.

All the above projects would not have been possible without the kindness and generosity of numerous individuals, companies and corporations that have donated generously and contributed to the success of our projects.

For the upcoming few months, we intend to carry out even more projects that benefit the community with special emphasis on projects related to health and education like :-
- cataract surgery for fifty (50) underprivileged patients;
- wheelchairs for one hundred and twenty five (125) needy patients;
- one hundred (100) laptops for students form underprivileged families; and
- raising awareness of autism and equipping the Occupational Therapy Department at Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim Sungai Petani.

We are organising a charity virtual run, “Fight Your Demons” to raise RM 100,000.00 for the above projects. The idea behind this event is to contribute to the community while promoting a healthy life style. The Covid-19 pandemic and resulting lockdowns have affected many of us both physically and mentally. Through this virtual run, we hope to encourage more people to exercise, clear their minds and to lead a healthy life which is critical in overcoming these tough times.

The registration period for the charity virtual run is from 1 September 2021 to 22 October 2021. The running period is from 2 September 2021 to 31 October 2021.

Welcome to the Fight Your Demons event by the Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani!

Fight Your Demons is a Charity Virtual Run organised by Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani to raise funds for the Club's charitable projects. RCBSP intends to raise RM 100,000.00 for 4 main projects:
* providing laptops to students
* providing free cataract surgeries
* providing wheelchairs
* organise mental health/autism/medical camps.

The idea behind this event is to contribute to the community while promoting a healthy lifestyle. COVID-19 and the resulting constant lockdowns are affecting us both physically and mentally. It is time to fight the demons/dementors who are feeding on all the negativity. This friendly race and your contribution to society is definitely going to boost your physical and mental health.

1. You can complete the distance in as many separate short or long runs or walks as you want,
2. Log your run with any app you like,
3. and upload results at your virtual events list in HOWEI.
