President Thiaggu, and Rotarians Moorthy and Dr Parthiban went into action yesterday to obtain and deliver some items of urgent need for Baling flood victims in in the community of Tanjung Merbau, at the bank of Sungai Kupang. Lotus's sponsored 15 stoves and 30 rice cookers. RM 1,514 was approved by the District Disaster Relief Committee for this project. This was for kettles. The object was to quickly get the community back on their feet in self-supply of drinking water and rapidly restore their kitchen function. Rotaractors from AIMST University were an immense help. Our First Lady Shareta was also in action.

Rotary International District 3300 Awards and Recognitions were presented on 17 June 2022 at Hee Lai Ton, Petaling Jaya by District Governor Dato' Bindi Rajasegaran. Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani won the Best Community Service Project in 2021-22 amongst the large clubs (membership above 25) in the District. President Gopaldhass received the award for the Club. The project that won this was the Micron School Outreach Program which brought much-needed laptops to 100 needy students who were confined to home and had no equipment to join online education during the COVID pandemic. Best Membership Retention (100% retention) 2. Outstanding Rotary Day of Service Project (Mangrove Planting) 3. Outstanding Environmental Project (Mangrove Planting) President Gopaldhass received Governor's Special Recognition "Excellence in Leadership" for excellent service through leadership of the Club. Charter President Dato' Dr Subramaniam and Rotarian Shanmuganathan delivered yet more wheelchairs to those who needed a wheelchair on loan. In a joint project by Micron Memory Malaysia and Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani, we visited Rumah Permata Kasih in Permatang Pauh and presented RM 5,000 worth of groceries, fresh vegetables, stand fans and a printer. The children, all girls aged 5 and 6 years old, received a set of tudung and jubah as well as duit Raya. The project was donated by Micron and their staff. Micron staff and Rotarians rolled up their sleeves to bring the items to the home. The smiles on the faces of the children tell the story.

Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani donated 4 wheelchairs to be used by students who require them on temporary basis. Rotarians (Charter President) Dato' Dr Subramaniam and (Past President) Shanmuganathan delivered the wheelchairs to the university.
Lecturers and students of the Community Medicine Department of the Faculty of Medicine, AIMST University with Rotaract Club of AIMST University and Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani ran a community medical camp for residents of Mukim Simpor at Dewan Simpor today. This is a predominantly fishing and rice cultivating community in Kuala Muda district. Specialists from the departments of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology were also present to provide expert consultation for those with medical problems detected during screening. We hope to improve the health and awareness of our community via these targeted medical camp programs. Rotarians and Rotaractors from 5 Clubs lent a helping hand to the riverine mangrove forest on the banks of Sungai Merbok by planting 200 mangrove trees today. Rotary Clubs of Perlis, Alor Star, Kulim and Bandar Sungai Petani and Rotaract Club of AIMST University joined forces to restore the ecology of the mangrove. 30 members, including District 3300 Governor Dato' Bindi Rajasegaran and District 3300 Community Service Chair Tajul Haslam Datuk Tajuddin, departed Semeling Jetty by boat to the site along the Merbok River. Under the guidance of Kuala Muda Forestry officer, the mangroves were planted in a denuded area and crabs were released into the river. Environmental sustainability is one of Rotary's Area of Focus. Rotary hopes that this hands-on action will spark further awareness about sustaining our natural environment on our one and only earth for our future generations. Guiding us in this project is Kuala Muda Forestry Department. We will plant 200 mangrove trees in Merbok Forest Reserve. Date: Saturday 19 Feb 2022 Meeting Time: 8:30 am End Time: 11.00 am Meeting location: Semeling Jetty (Google Map) Come dressed for a boat ride and to do some hands-on planting. Comfortable and rugged shoes are recommended. Contact via WhatsApp to register.
