Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani members and friends celebrated Aidilfitri yesterday at Rafflesia Restaurant. It was an evening of good food and good company. Organising chair Hery DeHaan started off with Al-Fatihah and welcomed everyone with a string of witty pantuns. President Thiaggu and Rotarian Arvind spoke about what the Club does and what we hope to achieve. We also viewed a video about the Club's COVID-19 relief actions in 2020-2022. In conjunction with World Polio Day and Deepavali on 24 October, Rotary International District 3300 shared a Deepavali fellowship meal on 2 November 2022. This was hosted by Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani at President Thiaggu Letchumanan's home. District Governor Dr Krishna Kumar and District First Lady PAG Pushpa attended in person after his official visit to the club. A total of 80 Rotarians attended in person and on hybrid zoom. In a joint project by Micron Memory Malaysia and Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani, we visited Rumah Permata Kasih in Permatang Pauh and presented RM 5,000 worth of groceries, fresh vegetables, stand fans and a printer. The children, all girls aged 5 and 6 years old, received a set of tudung and jubah as well as duit Raya. The project was donated by Micron and their staff. Micron staff and Rotarians rolled up their sleeves to bring the items to the home. The smiles on the faces of the children tell the story.
Thirty children and accompanying staff from Sungai Petani were treated to a meal at McDonald's and a "Pink Christmas" show at Aman Central Mall, Alor Setar. It was indeed a spectacular show put up by PR Entertainment. Thank you to the management of Aman Central Mall especially Mr Harussani who made arrangements for the children. The group was accompanied by six Rotarians of Bandar Sungai Petani. RCBSP organised Deepavali shopping at Navin Emporium, Jalan Sekerat for children from Gurunathar Ashram on 14th October as part of their annual activities. More than 55 children were taken to experience shopping on their own. This event really brought so much of joy to the children, which is generally not their privilege. The children had the opportunity to pick their own clothes of their choice.
The members of the Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani were present to assist the children make the choice. A tailor was in attendance to modify the dresses if necessary. This shopping is very meaningful as it helps the recipients celebrate Deepavali. Towards the end of the shopping event the children gathered around the members to say a thank you prayers. This is the 5th consecutive year this shopping is carried out and RCBSP hope to continue this event every year. |
