Posted by PP Arvind: The Best decision of my life - becoming a Rotarian and having the opportunity to participate in meaningful community service projects both in Malaysia and around the world. This is one of the biggest projects the Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani has participated in, being the international partner for a project carried out by the Rotary Club of Madras Down Town, Rotary International District 3230 India and funded by a Global Grant from The Rotary Foundation. Through the project, we have donated the necessary equipment costing almost RM 150,000.00 to set up a diagnostic centre at ANANDAM, a free home for senior citizens at Ambattur, Chennai, India. The ANANDAM Home for Senior Citizens is a free home catering to the needs of underprivileged elders who have no one to care for them. It provides decent shelter and comfort, as well as physical, moral and medical support and care. From a modest beginning with three residents, ANANDAM now provides for over 100 senior citizens who are given the best care possible. In addition to medical care, residents of ANANDAM are also given yoga, meditation and music classes by volunteer teachers and the healthy ones are even taken on outings once a month. All residents are given chores and duties to keep them active and give them a sense of belonging. In addition, some of the senior citizens there who have had some education earlier on in their lives also help to provide tuition classes to over 150 poor children in the neighbourhood. Many many thanks to President Rajagopal Ramesh and members of the Rotary Club of Madras Down Town for letting us be a part of this wonderful project and also to our DG Siti Subaidah and District TRF Chair, PDG Dr Rajindar Singh for allocating the necessary District Designated Funds for the project.
