A talk by Ms Ulirika Player
Founder of Trash Hero Langkawi
Sejati Room, Park Avenue Hotel, Sungai Petani
Wednesday 19th April 2017, 8.00 pm
In search of a new adventure in the Far East, Uli sold most of her possessions and decided to throw caution to the wind. She left her home country of Sweden and moved to Langkawi. That was five years ago. Since then Uli has never looked back. But after much sun bathing, cocktail sipping and watching stunning sunsets on the beach Uli found that there is more to life than just ‘chilling.’ Being Swedish she is very much an environmentalist and cares about trash disposal and recycling. She also begins to notice and became frustrated that the beautiful island that she lives in is becoming systematically soiled by excessive use of plastic, thrash being disposed of indiscriminately and people generally do not recycle.
On a trip to KoLipe, she discovered an organisation called Trash Heroes. She participated in a programme sorting out rubbish on a beautiful beach. On her return Uli became inspired to start something similar. Despite multiple challenges, she founded Trash Hero Langkawi.
Supported by hotels, LADA, the Rotary Club of Langkawi, locals, expats and tourists. The Trash Heroes of Langkawi has gone from strength to strength.
